Investing in other players is one way to help survive the variance experienced by poker professionals. The stake itself can cause a good player to play better, not having to worry about if he/she loses this hand will the light bill be paid? It can help the person doing the staking to still have a poker income while having a bad run at the tables at the same time. Sometimes the person doing the staking can help to improve the person being staked by helping them identify leaks in their game. Staking arrangements should always be a win/win agreement, where both parties benefit from the financing of a player.
